Be a Blessing!

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God”. Hebrews 13:16

“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

“When you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full”.

I have written on this subject before but I feel led to again. It amazes me how much a little act of kindness can do so much good. I’m not talking about what it does for the receiver, although I have been on that end more times than I can count and it feels good to know others care and there are still a lot of kindnesses in a world where most of the time only the bad things are talked about. I am talking about being the giver or the good deed doer. I’m not going to share the small act of kindness I did this morning because I think boasting is wrong and doing for others should never be to brag about one’s self. I don’t deserve or want credit in anything I do, I want God to get all the glory, because it is he who lays things upon my heart to act upon.

I am sharing because although the more I give, the more I get. God blesses me all the time in so many unexpected ways and I’m grateful, but what I enjoy most about giving or helping others is the feeling I get from these acts of kindness. It turns a blah morning into a day to look forward to.

This morning I got to work and was very disappointed when I took a sip of my tea, it just didn’t taste right. I asked a coworker to supervise my student while I quickly ran to the store to get another one. In the 5 minutes it took to make and purchase my tea, I saw an opportunity to bless someone else who appeared to be struggling. I truly think God used me by putting me in that situation to be in the right place at the right time to show his love in a random act of kindness. I almost never leave work, especially to grab a tea. I truly hope this small act turned this person’s day around.

So do yourself a favor, if you see an opportunity to bless another person, don’t pass it by. I promise it will come back to you tenfold, but don’t do it for what you may get in return, do it because of the feeling you’ll feel and to make a difference in someone else’s life. We just don’t know what any one is truly going through. They could be struggling or they could be having an amazing day, either way, a small gesture, gift or kind action can make their day even better.

Thank you to all the many friends, family and strangers who have blessed me throughout my life. Those who recently blessed my daughter’s family in the aftermath of the devastating hurricane that destroyed their home.

I will never stop “paying it forward”…

“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up”. Galatians 6:9

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed”. Proverbs 11:25
