Opinion vs Judgements

Image
For you created my inmost being: you knit me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13 It seems to me that a person who calls themselves a Christian is not allowed by many to have an opinion on certain issues without being accused of judging, An example that weighs heavy on my heart and mind is the pro-life vs pro-choice debate which has come to the forefront again due to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. First and foremost, I think both sides of the debate agree that the government should have nothing to do with abortion. I can easily explain why I am considered pro-life but why can't I feel the way I feel without a pro-choicer trying to change my mind? I truly try hard not to judge others. I believe that God, our creator is and should be the only judge. I am friends with several people who have opted to get abortions and although it saddens me, it is not up to me to judge them. I truly believe the decision is between them and God. On the flip side, I don't think I should ...

Pray without ceasing

Image
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17 "To pray without ceasing means to have our minds always on the things of God, to be in constant communication with him; so that every moment may be as fruitful as possible." *openbible.org For many years I have felt convicted about what I refer to as my "ka-ka mouth", I swear a lot and I know it is not becoming and it certainly isn't glorifying to God. I've prayed many times about it and have made a conscious effort many times but it seems the old habit comes back as easily as breathing. In the last couple of weeks, I have tried a new approach, on the basis of "pray without ceasing." I pray often, numerous times throughout the day, nothing formal or elaborate, but just talking to a friend (what a friend we have in Jesus). I am finding that the more time I am spending in prayer, the swearing as we...

The Ripple Effect

Image
Have you ever skimmed a rock across the water? Did you notice the dots and ripples that one small rock caused? Now picture that rock as kindness and the water as a person and then multiple people. This is how kindness works, one act of kindness can cause a ripple effect. Even if you are not there after you cast the kindness, the ripples can continuously go on. If you think you alone can't make a difference in this world, I beg to differ. Kindness can be expressed in a multitude of ways. It doesn't need to cost a lot or anything at all. There is nothing wrong with using money or material items to spread kindness, a simple smile or kind word can make a difference to someone who is having a bad day. In the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, it is so easy to just rush from one thing to the next. I have observed how many people passing each other in a corridor, hallway, store, or on a street, don't even make eye contact with each other. How difficult is it to give a smile, a f...
